“Bas–Longchang”: Comrades United by Ideology, Yet Torn by Love in the Intense Historical Romance Series When Light Fades

In a world shaped by beliefs and ideological conflicts, can friendship, love, and conviction truly coexist? When Light Fades, a historical romance drama, invites audiences into a deeply emotional story where the heart is forced to choose.

Produced as a Viu Original series by P.S. Performance, SMK GROUP, and DEVA Art Theater Studio, When Light Fades is supported by the Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture, and THACCA. The series marks Bas Asavapat’s first leading role as “Comrade Yue,” a member of the Communist Party alliance and a young man carrying hidden emotional scars beneath his cold and distant exterior. Starring alongside him is Thai-Taiwanese newcomer Longchang Athip as “Rawin” or “Comrade Saeng,” a passionate student activist who firmly believes in justice. Though serious about his ideals, Rawin also possesses a playful and cheerful side. Their paths cross at Baan Saengdao, where they begin living together under the same cause.

The series also features an ensemble cast including Pentai Natnicha, Oat Worawut, Radklao Amaradit, Kong Montri, Kate Khattriya, Pass Patcharapon, Namnile Waratchasaporn, Heart Kittipipat, Jeng Dorn, and Baitong Kanyawara. Directed by Chokanan Sakultham.

Following the events of October 6, 1976, violence in the city changes Rawin’s life forever. His desperate escape for survival leads him deep into the forest and to a communist base, where he meets Comrade Yue—a quiet, stern young fighter who has never allowed anyone close to his heart.

Living together amidst nature, caring for each other through injuries, and standing side by side on the battlefield gradually melt away their distrust and transform it into an unspoken bond. Love begins to grow silently in a place where love should not exist.

Meanwhile, Dandin (Pentai Natnicha), a young soldier who shares a complicated past with Rawin, continues searching for him without giving up. Childhood memories and feelings left unspoken become a driving force that conflicts with the duty he bears. His search is no longer simply about finding a missing person—it becomes a journey to find answers within his own heart.

Surrounded by gunfire, ideology, and loss, Rawin finds himself torn between the safety and understanding offered by Comrade Yue and a past that has never truly faded. One night beneath the stars high in the mountains, the two finally open their hearts to one another for the first time.

As the world around them falls apart, their love becomes beautiful, fragile, and perhaps forbidden. With hidden truths waiting to be revealed and the paths of all three men destined to collide, When Light Fades does not ask who is right or wrong. Instead, it raises a profound question:
